A message from Dawn requesting that we write letters of support for Jeannette
April 4, 2012
I am writing all of you because of your connection to Jeannette. As most of you know she has been in the process of seeking clemency for quite awhile now and after her initial hearing last month they tabled her case until June. Her case will again go before the board on June 8th 2012, again at 10am in Olympia.
I, along with the guidance and support of a few of my social work colleagues have begun doing some serious advocacy on Jeannette's behalf. I am initiating this process with a letter writing campaign, hoping to get as many letters of support for Jeannette from both people who have a personal connection to Jeannette and from community members who do not know her personally but feel compelled to speak out on her behalf.
I will be mailing two sets of letters: The first set of letters will be going directly to the board and should be delivered to them 2-3 weeks before her case is heard. The second set I will be taking to the governor for her review after the board has given their recommendation on June 8th. All this I hope will only add to the strong case Jeannette has already created for herself.
So I am writing each of to ask for your support in this.
I am hoping you will be willing to submit a letter of support for Jeannette and briefly describe how she has impacted your life, how you know her. Giving specific examples is best, describing a time Jeannette interacted with you in a positive way or a specific example of how you have seen Jeannette acting in a positive way in the prison. The letter also should be brief. The board will have a lot of letters to read, so it is best to keep them concise. Convey your message in a powerful, short statement. We want to bombard the board with reasons why Jeannette is an "exceptional" case, how valuable she is, and how valuable she would be in society.
You can email me back your message and I will print out two copies and cover the postage etc. and get them all delivered to Olympia. Please forward this message to anyone who may want to voice support for Jeannette. If you have any questions please email or call me.
Thank you in advance for your support,
Dawn
